Sanji is making a big deal out of everything. So what if his family is abusive, shit happens way worse in real world, get over it. Who is he really protecting? himself? Zeff will be ashamed, as he would have raised a better man than that. It's pretty obvious he has not grown since his childhood, still emotionally trapped as a weak little boy who can't stand up for himself. This arc is dragging on more than what it needs to be because of Sanji. Big Mom is someone Straw Hat would have to be beat eventually, so let's get on with it!! Respect to Luffy for putting up with Sanji. I was hoping the fight to be more of beating Sanji up and taking him back no matter what approach, but that will be just like Naruto.... Good slap by Nami. Sanji totally deserved it. Hoping Jinbe is okay. He is definitely a better man to save than Sanji at this point, but Luffy doesn't even know he is there yet. |

He has always been a level headed character and from his perspective he can't see other solution than sacrificing himself. |

This ep really had me crying, the feels and emotions in this ep was intense and oh was it good! When Sanji just wants to protect everyone and Luffy here just wants Sanji back, I NEED THE OTHERS TO COME AND HELP!! I want the crew back together and the end where they replayed their happy memories oh man I was crying a river 😭 |

I really liked this special, the second episode in particular really lived up to the hype imo. I liked the new opening, this is the first new one since I caught up with the series so it feels weird seeing spoilers for events that I read not too long ago. The first part was particularly flashback heavy but it did a nice job setting things up and providing emotional build up. The second part though is really were the real action got started. Sanji was pretty brutal with his trash talking, it was obviously forced but it was still pretty harsh nonetheless. I got a laugh out of Sanji's brothers getting heart eyes for Nami, I guess being a perv really does run in the family. Sanji vs Luffy was a pretty great fight, not for the action since it was pretty much just a beatdown but Luffy's resolve was really just too awesome. The imagery of Sanji thrashing Luffy with repeated Diable Jambles and Nami crying really captured the intensity of the situation. Seeing Luffy lose his tooth and get his skull cracked from that first kick was chilling, this was a completely different type of fight compared to Luffy vs Usopp and it really showed. Nami slapping Sanji was pretty harsh when you take into account his situation but still understandable. Luffy's speech at the end was really powerful, it was adapted quite nicely from the manga and showed just how much he values Sanji as a friend and as a cook. I can't wait to see Luffy vs the Enraged Army in two weeks. |

Taking out his family and Big Mom will hopefully remove the potential threat to Zeff, especially when Germa 66 appears to be an army of mindless clones. So taking out the heads will be effective. Instead of believing in his "real family", he voluntarily put himself back in the same situation and conforms to his family's wish, allowing his family to manipulate him again. Like Reiju said no second chance. He has not grown emotionally. Plus Zeff was willing to lose his leg and no food to continue Sanji's same dream of finding All Blue. For Sanji to do this, has he not thought it's a smack to his old man's face? It's all very sad for everyone, but I simply don't feel it for Sanji. |

My god this second half was so good. I had the same feeling like back when Luffy and Usopp were fighting at Water 7. It's something you don't want to see. Friends who are fighting each other. But if you know Sanjis situation, how could someone ever blame him? Luffy lost a tooth from that one kick but I didn't expect from Sanji to go all out with his last attack. I knew Luffy would never die from it but it looked pretty scary at first with all the blood. Everyone who watched that episode knows that wasn't a fight at all. Unlike the fight between Luffy and Usopp, Luffy here had no reason to fight against Sanji. Poor Nami. She couldn't do anything besides watching. I had a feeling she would slap Sanji as soon as she went to him. Luffys speech at the end in never giving up on Sanji, all the memories they showed + seeing Sanji and Nami crying was something my heart couldn't handle anymore. So sad ;_; |

The first one was almost complete flashbacks and this one was also flashback-heavy (though not as bad as the previous episode). This one-hour special is the epitome of what's wrong with long-running shows, and I'll never, for as long as I live, understand how some people out there legitimately prefer long-runners over the seasonal format of shows like Boku no Hero or Haikyuu or Shokugeki no Souma. Its simple long shows end while the fucking others get cut in the middle |

I'm a complete sucker for Memories so I was surprised to see a remix for it. This brings me back to the Usopp vs. Luffy era. Was good to watch this animated, but I'm still glad I picked up the manga due to the padding and flashbacks somewhat hampering the impact (way too many eye catches and repeats of previous moments). |

Great episode. It was so sad to watch them fighting... or more like watching Sanji being forced to beat Luffy :'( That reminded me of Luffy vs Usopp, which, by he way, was a lot more emotional that this one. Nice flashbacks at the end from old, good One Piece. That all makes me feel like rewatching the whole series. |

Currently if Sanji is to rebel against Germa 66 he will lose his hands meaning his dream of being a chef in the All Blue is all but over, Zeff the man he has more respect for than any other including Luffy and the gang would be executed and if Luffy was to help he would have two huge crews going for the eventual king of the pirates simultaneously after Nami just told Sanji that Luffy is not at full strength. He has most certainly developed as a character, when he was young he was weak and afraid. The fact he came on his own to end the situation once and for all shows he is no longer weak or afraid, he is doing what he has seen Luffy do countless times since they met and go up against impossible odds single handed and win. His family still see him as a weak cowardly subordinate that will back down and that speech from Luffy at the end of 808 will make sure that does not happen. |

It really pissed me off during the very slow first half when they keep repeating scenes over and over again and those goddamn little cutscenes where they show the Strawhats' wanted posters, this is fucking new low for Toei. But near the end when they showed flashbacks of the Strawhats' past adventures together and coupled with that classic, One Piece's first ending song which is titled memories, see the genius behind this? Damn I sure did cry like a bitch. Fuck that first half though. |

This episode really made me cry. Well i almost never cry while i am watching any emotional anime but this episode really touched me. I was shocked when I saw Sanji crying after beating the shit out of luffy. again it has been confirmed that luffy has understanding about his friends. That is some good trait that we should practice in our life. I am totally excited about the next episode. |

To me these past few eps have felt a bit laklustre with the drawn out pacing more noticeable than on other arcs when they needed to do so but damn when they put out an episode like these I cannot help but feel a few slow eps were all worth the wait. This episode really encapsulated the core of what one piece is and was and really hit damn hard on me than I was initially prepared for. Toei for all the flak they receive(and rightly so at times) really relivers on keypoints of the story like these. Damn that was a good ep and memories by maki otsuki playing with the montage of their older adventures hits right home in the feels. Thank you toei for adapting this particular episode with this much care. |

For some reason, I did not feel much sad during this episode. The final speech was great, but I could not understand why sanji had to thrash luffy like that. He could just have told them the situation( atleast Nami would understand) about his hands, zeff chef, etc.. But I don't know much about how Manga is written, so I guess thiis is for the best. I mean, we don't know the future story, whereas the writer does. I will not compare it to usopp vs luffy, or nico robin leaving crew in fear of cp9, as the arc is still airing. Let's see how jinbei, brook team, chopper team, sanji's plan to escape, copying of the Poneglyph, wano team and army vs luffy & nami add up to thhe climax of this arc. The most interesting element is the pekom's (who disappeared a while back) part in making all this come together. |

I hope sanji comes back quick also for some reason I felt Nani seen those handcuffs and knew something was up! IF ZORO WAS THERE!......... he would have scrapped sanji immediately for gettin after his captain even though luffy would have told him to do nothing smh We all know how One piece is so hopefully there will be a twist where Sanji got into a predicament that he could have avoided had he known sooner or same for luffy and Nani. I can't wait to see what pudding tells Sanji too because he doesn't have a clue rn that she is going to help or maybe already has 🤷♂️ Also I wonder why Pekoms ran off and what he did, and how chopper and carrot will escape. I am going to quote the anime news network review of 808 As for 808, the real meat of this week's One Piece special, my feelings are significantly more positive. The fight avoids feeling contrived thanks to the fact that we still don't really know what Sanji's thinking in terms of how to get himself out of this situation, or whether help from his friends is needed. Stories about Straw Hats temporarily leaving the crew have been done much more effectively in the past, and a fight like this forever hides in the looming shadow of Luffy vs. Usopp from back in the Water 7/Enies Lobby days. The crew has gone through so much together and repeatedly proven what they're willing to go through for their friends. The series can't push that kind of story anywhere it hasn't been, but I think this take on it works by hanging onto a few specific threads: 1.) Luffy's just as surprised as the audience when he happens upon the Vinsmokes on their way to Sanji's engagement ceremony and Sanji immediately fights him off. Like us, Luffy's thinking "Sanji's been through this kind of stuff lots of times! He knows how we deal with this." Then he's forced to realize that no, this might not be one of those times. This makes us wonder if there's something we don't understand. 2.) This is the first time somebody's tried to leave the crew for the sake of a third party (in this case, Zeff). Sanji's forced to play the role of an antagonist so that his family doesn't kill his mentor on the other side of the world, and he's still clinging to hope that this can end with everybody keeping their heads. He's not proud of hitting and badmouthing his own captain, but that pride is less important to him than Zeff. 3.) This fight works well as a beat within the arc itself more than it does for the larger story of the Straw Hats. This is a case where being familiar with the manga and where it's going helps, because Whole Cake Island is such a meticulously structured arc that its real strengths don't show until you've gotten further in. Basically, seeing how the Straw Hats deal with their beef eventually creates a strong juxtaposition between them and the other families of the arc. The drama is just believable enough to serve that role, even if it feels like a worn out trope in the context of the whole series. It's kind of bizarre to place this fight alongside the upcoming Goku vs. Jiren battle, since what we get is mostly Sanji beating on Luffy and Luffy not fighting back. The whole emotional journey of this episode is that Luffy holds his ground and just lets his friend have at it. As far as the presentation goes, it's immaculate. As we reach the end of the fight, and the two pals part ways, everything about the art, music (is that some Ghibli-style piano I hear?), and atmosphere are entirely worthy of the one-hour special hype. Honestly, I think the drama that the direction adds is a significant improvement over the manga version, which was weighed down significantly by the comparisons to other "Straw Hat leaves the crew" stories. And then it wraps the episode up with a montage set to the show's first ending theme, 'Memories', completely pandering to my desire to see the old feelings of this show paid due respect within the modern content. Toei, my buds, my friends, you're free to use insert songs whenever you want. You can do it in every episode for all I care. I'll be happy with it. It feels good to like episode 808 as much as I do, because it's ultimately just the jumping-off point for the stuff that I find really interesting about this arc. I can't imagine that anything else will get such a flashy hype train going for it, but I'll take the emotional roller coaster while I can get it. This "special" is Toei's adaptation at its best and worst, really pushing my patience with all the flashbacks and filler, but also giving me all the depth of feeling I could ask for when the direction really pulls it off. |

I am now 29, i have been watching One Piece since 2002 when i was 14. Half of my life. I remembered why i loved it so much. But..... that episode was an exception. Still boring episodes are coming. The pace is very slow, there are thousands of villains noone cares, the nakamas are not on the ship (i miss these days so much) and there in no light at the end of the abyss Oda put himself in |

Sanji is one of my favorites in One Piece but he got lucky that Luffy didn't fight him like he did with Ussop and to be blunt I was disappointed by Luffy (I understand that he would have whooped Sanji's a$$ thus no more Big Mom/Wedding Arc) but Sanjis needs to realize he can depend on his friends with stuff like this (the dire situation that Zeff is in)... |

Man, this part was a LOT better, not only animation was pretty darn good, it hit me right into feelz a few times ;_; It was SO obvious Sanji was hurt this whole time, but when he started crying I couldn't make it either T^T AND NAMI'S BITCHSLAP NOOOOOO (okay, I was half-expecting her to step into their "duel" and get hit by Sanji, who probably wouldn't ever forgive himself for that lol). Totally didn't expect to hear "Memories", the first OP ending one more time! |
